Personal guidance, lasting impact — a structured mentorship journey from day one to career success.
"A mentor doesn't just show you the path — they walk beside you until you find your stride."
— Gold Heart Foundation
Gurukulam is our structured mentorship program connecting students with experienced professionals from diverse fields. Since 2018, we've been pairing first-generation college students with mentors who guide them through academics, career choices, and the often overwhelming transition from education to employment.
Unlike traditional mentorship, Gurukulam is built on consistency — students and mentors meet regularly, track goals together, and build a bond that often lasts well beyond the program. Many of our alumni return as mentors, completing a beautiful cycle of giving back.
A deliberate five-phase journey designed to build genuine, lasting mentor-student relationships.
Volunteer mentors are trained on our methodology, communication principles, and mentorship ethics before being matched with students. We carefully vet and prepare every guide.
Students begin with bi-weekly group mentorship sessions — covering topics like goal-setting, career mapping, soft skills, and navigating college life. Peer energy and shared learning drive these early sessions.
Regular check-ins assess each student's progress against set goals. Both mentors and students submit feedback, ensuring the relationship is working and adjustments can be made in real time.
Top-performing alumni and graduated scholars are formally inducted as next-generation mentors. This induction marks their transition from being guided to becoming a guide — celebrated within our community.
At the program's heart is the personal match — each student is paired with a mentor from a field aligned with their career aspirations. These 1:1 relationships develop at the student's pace, guided by shared interests and genuine rapport.
Four pillars that make Gurukulam more than just a mentorship program — it's a community of growth.
Mentors share real industry experience, not textbook advice. From navigating internships to decoding job offers, the guidance is grounded in lived reality.
First-generation students face unique pressures — family expectations, financial stress, imposter syndrome. Mentors provide a safe space to voice and work through these challenges.
Students gain access to a diverse professional network they otherwise wouldn't encounter — opening doors to internships, references, and career opportunities.
Seeing someone from a similar background succeed is powerful. Our mentors are proof that the destination students dream of is genuinely reachable.
Every match in Gurukulam is made thoughtfully — considering not just domain alignment, but personality, communication style, and long-term compatibility. Our coordination team works year-round to support both mentors and students, resolve challenges quickly, and continuously improve the program.
We track outcomes: placement rates, career satisfaction scores, and mentor retention — because measurement is how we keep getting better. Gurukulam is not a one-time event. It's an ongoing relationship between people who care deeply about each other's success.
Your experience can change someone's trajectory. Whether you're a recent graduate or a seasoned professional, your story and knowledge is exactly what our students need. Join Gurukulam as a mentor — it takes just a few hours a month.
